New Beginnings
For some reason or other I have always associated the phrase new beginning with something that’s an event. It probably comes from my years in retail advertising because we turned everything into an event.
But this of course ignores the fact that there is a long, arduous process that goes on before the "new beginning".
The new WRC website is just that sort of new beginning. I have long forgotten when we began this process. But I can assure you that the staff of our web site developer, Electricurrent, and the WRC staff who have been loading the information have not forgotten the endless hours.
However to be a vibrant, useful and relevant organization one must have an up to date “home” preferably one with a memorable and easy to find URL.
Let me say that we are quite proud of this site and believe it will offer you insight into our work and communicate on behalf of the people we serve.
So what about the people we serve? How relevant is the phrase “new beginning” to them? For many people in the grip of poverty the phrase is irrelevant. Their lives are consumed with the task of surviving one more day and if they are parents, doing this so that their children might survive one more day. The depth of poverty that so many are in means that without intervention and resources they are unable to reach the first rung of the ladder to begin the climb out.
The role we invite you to play is to work with us to introduce those without hope to the possibility of a "New Beginning" and then journey with them through the day when they can celebrate that it has begun.
Together we will then be fulfilling the aspiration of our theme “Cultivating Hope, Growing Communities”.
Laurie Cook, C.E.O.
