    Food Security Overview

We live in a world where there is an abundance of food in some places, and in others a desperate shortage. Although food aid is the primary form of World Relief Canada’s emergency response, we recognize the recipients’ need and preference to grow their own food and provide for their families: Food security is a high priority for WRCanada.

Since poverty is a major contributor to food insecurity, WRCanada endeavours to help communities and individuals find sustainable livelihoods by facilitating income generation, enhancing social and physical assets, and ensuring entitlements. We also work to provide required infrastructures such as potable water supplies and irrigation systems that are critical for food security initiatives. WRCanada focuses on supporting agricultural initiatives that help communities produce their own long-term food resources.
